Walnut Block Nutcracker Viognier 2025
🍾 Only 756 bottles made: the 2025 Nutcracker Viognier is produced in very small volume, and only in years good enough to justify it.
A rare find: one of only a handful of Viogniers grown in Marlborough, from a small, single parcel in the Rapaura sub-region.
A small-parcel, certified organic Viognier from Marlborough's Rapaura sub-region, hand-picked from vines given the kind of individual attention only a tiny yield allows.
🌎 Wine Region: Marlborough, New Zealand
🍇 Grape: Viognier (Certified Organic)
🍷 Tasting Notes: Smooth and generous, with ripe peach, apricot kernel and a hint of nutty spice lifted by bright acidity and a whisper of floral perfume. Ten months in oak puncheons add texture without weighing it down. Pour it with roast chicken, creamy pasta or a spicy Thai curry — it's got the fruit and freshness to handle either.
⭐ Critical Acclaim
Michael Cooper MW — 5 stars (6 October 2026): "The floral, refined 2025 vintage was estate-grown at Rapaura and fermented and matured for 10 months in oak puncheons. Fragrant and full-bodied, it is sweet-fruited and savoury, with vibrant stonefruit flavours, revealing excellent richness, delicacy, complexity and harmony. Dry and finely poised, with a persistent finish, it has obvious potential for cellaring."
Stephen Wong (11 September 2026): "Light aromas of apricot kernel and peach blossom lead to a mid-weight palate with a gently oily texture and hints of vanilla which leave a lingering apricot flavour on the finish. Dusty phenolics provide a rustic edge to the fruit but there is enough concentration and acidity here to let things settle over the coming year for a smoother ride."
